Silver · by Weight
Silver is quoted per troy ounce, but small silver — jewelry, scrap and 1-gram pieces — is weighed in grams. This page shows the live melt value of a single gram of fine silver.

Open the full calculator →The silver spot price is quoted per troy ounce, and one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams. So a gram of fine silver is 0.0321507 troy ounces, and its melt value is spot × 0.0321507 — the figure at the top of this page.
Melt value is the metal alone. For sterling (.925) silver, multiply by 0.925; for 90% coin silver, by 0.90; for .800 European silver, by 0.80. That makes the per-gram figure the building block for valuing any silver object once you know its weight and purity.
| 1 gram | 0.0321507 troy oz fine silver |
| 1 troy ounce | 31.1035 grams |
| Sterling (.925) | 0.925 × the per-gram figure |
| Coin silver (90%) | 0.90 × the per-gram figure |
| European (.800) | 0.80 × the per-gram figure |
| Quote convention | USD per troy ounce |
Melt value is the value of the metal in the coin, ignoring any collector premium:
Where the fine-metal content is known, this simplifies to spot × 0.0321507 oz. The live figure at the top of this page applies that formula to the current spot price.
Illustrative melt values (per gram) at example spot prices — shown for reference only; the live figure above uses the real market price:
| Example spot | Melt value |

| $25.00 | $0.80 |
| $35.00 | $1.13 |
| $50.00 | $1.61 |
Divide the live silver spot price per troy ounce by 31.1035. The figure at the top of this page does this and updates with the market.
One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams. A US silver dollar holds 0.77344 troy oz, which is about 24.06 grams of fine silver.
Multiply the per-gram fine-silver value by 0.925, because sterling silver is 92.5% silver.
A kilogram is 32.1507 troy ounces, so its melt value is spot × 32.1507. See the silver bar guide for common bar sizes.
