Gold · by Weight
Gold is quoted per troy ounce, but jewelry, scrap and small bars are weighed in grams. This page shows the live melt value of a single gram of gold — pure and by karat.

Live spot via gold-api.com. Melt value = spot × 0.0321507 troy oz of fine metal.
Open the full calculator →The gold spot price is quoted per troy ounce, and one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams. So a gram of pure (24k) gold is 0.0321507 troy ounces, worth spot × 0.0321507 — the live figure at the top of this page.
For alloyed gold, scale by karat: 24k is ~99.9% gold, 22k 91.7%, 18k 75.0%, 14k 58.3% and 10k 41.7%. Multiply the pure per-gram figure by the fraction to get the melt value of a karat gold item — the same method the full calculator applies to any weight and purity.
So a 14k ring is worth a little over half the per-gram figure per gram, and a 10k piece a little under half. Melt value is the metal content only; it ignores stones, design and any dealer markup or buy-back spread.
| 1 gram | 0.0321507 troy oz fine gold |
| 1 troy ounce | 31.1035 grams |
| 24k | .999 fine — 100% of the per-gram figure |
| 22k | 91.7% gold |
| 18k | 75.0% gold |
| 14k | 58.3% gold |
| 10k | 41.7% gold |
Melt value is the value of the metal in the coin, ignoring any collector premium:
Where the fine-metal content is known, this simplifies to spot × 0.0321507 oz. The live figure at the top of this page applies that formula to the current spot price.
Illustrative melt values (per gram) at example spot prices — shown for reference only; the live figure above uses the real market price:
| Example spot | Melt value |
|---|---|
| $2,000.00 | $64.30 |
| $2,500.00 | $80.38 |
| $3,000.00 | $96.45 |
Divide the live gold spot price per troy ounce by 31.1035. The figure at the top of this page does this and refreshes with the market.
Multiply the pure-gold per-gram value by 0.583, because 14k gold is 58.3% gold. An 18k piece uses 0.75 and a 10k piece 0.417.
One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams. That is different from the 28.35-gram avoirdupois ounce used for everyday goods.
24k gold is .999 fine, effectively pure, and is worth the full per-gram melt figure. Anything lower is an alloy and must be scaled by its karat.
This page values one item. The Silver Stacking Spreadsheet keeps the whole record — every coin, what you paid, and your running profit or loss, auto-calculated from the spot price you enter.
